Brigite  an exclusive interview

This former French housewife, turned model and a world famous thong swimwear designer, is now one of Europe's most recognizable faces

Jon Cappelli, U.S. correspondent for La Monde de Femme, a high end French fashion magazine, has been granted this exclusive series of  interviews with Brigite.  What follows is an authorized reprint.

In September of 1999, Brigite's life changed forever. However, did it change for the better.  I'm not sure Brigite has yet do decide.  Earlier in the year she had entered a nationwide contest in her native France. Sponsored by a French television network and a leading cosmetic company, the contest received over 750,000 entries. The rules were simple.

You had to be a non-working French woman between the age of 40 and 50. The object was to take an ordinary French "housewife" and turn her into an international sex symbol, model and actress. Entrants were required to submit a biography, a statement of why they thought they would be successful, and photos - evening gown, swimwear, either thong swimsuit or g-string bikini and topless bikini swimwear.  The contest was extremely well publicized and widely followed not only throughout France, but the entire Mediterranean region.

The winner would receive professional photo shoots with the pictures submitted to several magazines and web sites worldwide, an around the world promotional tour, a one year paid residence in Hollywood, and several prearranged screen tests. Brigite competed against 12 other women in the finals in Cannes in September 1999.  She won by a landslide, on her birthday. This 44 year old "housewife" was on her way. But to where?  She could never imagine.

Three months into her world tour, her husband of 12 years left her. One month later she was in the hospital in Bangkok with heat stroke. Three weeks out of the hospital her hotel room in Tokyo was robbed. An auspicious start!

She has now been in Hollywood for 6 months and, although her spirits seem to be  high,  I

noticed a little less enthusiasm than when I first met her on the French Riviera two years ago. She has struggled with her goals and dealing with her personal tragedies along the way.


The movie roles she had hoped for are not coming her way and she has nobody, and nothing, now to go home to. Her design career, which she did prior to the

the contest, does at least seems to be going quite well.

 

She is one of the stronger willed people I have ever met, but with few friends in the States, and no family to speak of left in France, I personally wonder what may become of  this lovely lady who has been dubbed France's new "Dream Girl".

Brigite was very open in this interview, and has graciously granted several more. I know, I for one, am pulling for her and wishing her all the luck in the world.
